Tartan is
a woolen fabric having beautiful patterns in different colors. Tartan
is very famous clothing especially for Scottish people and for Irish
people. There are a huge variety of Irish tartans among which many are
dedicated to each particular county and family with different colors.
There are many Irish families such as Doyle Clan which have dedicated
tartans which are exclusive for their family members. In the 1990s the
Irish tartan was become so famous that the 6th of April in 1998 was
declared the National Tartan Day for the very first time in the United
States of America.
Among all tartans Irish tartan is probably the oldest of all. The style of woolen fabrics which is now known as tartan was there in Europe for many centuries. The oldest tartan found was in the Irish peat bog in the 1960s. The tartan is known by many names from the very beginning, the experts have estimated that the first tartan with a tartan design was fabricated in the 1600s.
In the Ulster Museum in Belfast there are mane evidences of the Irish Gaels that have created the Irish tartans which have pre-dated the Scottish tartans. All the Irish pipe bands wear tartan kilts of solid and dark colors from the very beginning and they are still in use.
There are very few families in the Irish Family Tartans as compared to the Scottish Tartans which is in hundreds. Most Irish people wear the Irish Tartan County from which their families were originated. Few of the Irish families are of ancient origin and some are of new and latest design. The famous clothing of Irish Tartan is the Irish tartan kilt or Irish Tartan skirt. Kilt is the most famous as all bag pipes and their fans uses it at many and different occasions. But now with new trends and fashion Irish tartans are used for different clothing such as for gloves, scarf, short coat or a beautiful jacket. Pants and ties are also fabricated with the Irish Tartan.
